SOUTH PORTLAND — Charles F. Brogan Jr., 69, of South Portland, died May 23 at his home.

He was born Nov. 27, 1944, a son of Charles F. and Florence Elizabeth Brogan. He attended local schools and was a 1963 graduate of South Portland High School. He served with the Marine Corps Reserves for six years during the Vietnam War.

In 1971, he married Virginia Conley at Holy Cross Church.

Brogan worked as a mechanical designer throughout his career. He was employed for 10 years with Data General, 10 years with Hague International, and he retired from Dielectric Corporation in 2009. Throughout his life, he was a technical person who appreciated the use of computers.

He enjoyed tropical fish and having an aquarium. Brogan was a daily visitor to Bug Light where he enjoyed seeing the ships and boats enter and exit the Portland harbor. He enjoyed taking his family on day trips throughout Maine and New England. He was an avid New England sports fan who enjoyed the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church.

He will best be remembered as a wonderful father and husband.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of South Portland; son, Charles Brogan, of South Portland; daughter, Sheila Brogan-Sharrow, and husband, John-Charles; and sister, Barbara Knowles, of Westbrook.

Visiting hours were held Wednesday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday at Holy Cross Church, South Portland. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
