CAPE ELIZABETH — Charles E. Dyer, 85, died Sept. 2 at a local hospital.

Born in Portland, a son of Nathan D. and Frances M. (Winship) Dyer, he attended local schools, and graduated from South Portland High School in 1942.

He attended the University of Maine at Orono before he enlisted into the U. S. Navy and served during World War II until his honorable discharge a few years later.

For many years he worked as a mechanical engineer for Stone and Webster Engineering Company in Boston, Mass., until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of the Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth, where he loved to play golf.

He was predeceased by his brother, Nathan Dyer, and two sisters, Elizabeth Perkins and Emily Dana.

Surviving are his wife Frances Intartaglia Dyer of Cape Elizabeth; three nieces, Pamela Perkins, Sandra Perkins, and Janet Dana, and two nephews, Jere Dana and Randall Perkins; and many loving family members and friends.

A graveside service was held earlier this week at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
