FALMOUTH — Police are considering charges against a driver after a car crashed into a house Tuesday on Allen Avenue, causing “substantial damage” to the home.
Police said the driver, Kirkland Lamour, 22, of Auburn, attempted to pass another vehicle on a hill just after 3:30 p.m., lost control of the car and slammed into the home at 73 Allen Ave.
According to Lt. John Kilbride of the Falmouth Police Department, no one was home at the time of the accident and no one was injured. Two men, ages 18 and 20, were passengers in the car.
“There is substantial damage to the house,” Kilbride said. Damage to the structure was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000 and included broken water pipes, he said. The car sustained about $5,000 in damage.
Kilbride said when Lamour started to pass the car on the hill, the other driver was startled and swerved to the right. Lamour also swerved and then lost control.
“We are looking at charging for improper passing,” Kilbride said. “We cannot prove the rate of speed, but to pass on a hill, you have to accelerate.”
