BATH/BRUNSWICK — Mid-Coast residents will have a variety of activities to choose from on Independence Day in Bath and Brunswick.

Kicking things off early in Brunswick will be the free Games on the Mall event from 10-11:30 a.m. July 4 on the Town Mall.

Sponsored by The Rotary Club of Brunswick in cooperation with Brunswick Parks and Recreation, Games on the Mall is described by the Rotary Club as an “old-fashioned celebration of Independence Day.” Featured will be traditional games such as three-legged and sack races, a pie-eating contest, and a wheelbarrow race for families to enjoy.

Prizes will also be awarded in different age categories.

Festivities in Bath will also kick off at 10 a.m., with the annual Bath Heritage Days Parade beginning at the corner of North and Lincoln streets. It will proceed south on Lincoln, East on Centre Street, and North on Front Street, ending on North Street past Patten Free Library.

Other events happening July 4 as part of Bath Heritage Days include a “1 Mile Fun Run” beginning at 7:30 a.m., a “5 Mile Road Race” beginning at 8:15 a.m. at City Hall, and a book sale hosted by Friends of Patten Free Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Winter Street Church.

Following the Independence Day Parade, there will be a Strawberry Shortcake Social by Hillhouse Assisted Living from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., a carnival at noon, and live entertainment all day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
