WISCASSET — Cecil H. Reed Jr., 80, died Feb. 5 at Mid Coast Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Damariscotta on Sept. 19, 1931, a son of Cecil H. Sr. and Lillian Reed.

He graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1949 and entered the U.S. Navy shortly after. He very proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Missouri for four years, serving two tours during the Korean conflict.

On March 9, 1954, he married Joan Johnson. He was employed over the years with Yankee Wholesale, Sylvania Electric, maintenance superintendent for Wiscasset schools and the Wiscasset Water Company.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 54 in Wiscasset.

Reed was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, especially at Webb Lake in Weld.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan B. Reed of Wiscasset; daughter Kathleen Bryant and her husband Norman; three sons, Chris Reed and his wife, Jackie, Kevin Reed and his wife, Melinda, and Kent Reed and his wife, Marci, all of Wiscasset; brother Larry H. Reed of Walpole; 10 much loved grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
