The Casco Bay Tier II Squirts Mariners hockey team recently won the state championship and the New England regional title. Casco Bay survived the highwire dramatics of a sudden death shootout to win the state crown. At the New England regional tournament in Essex, Vermont, Casco Bay went 2-1 in the preliminary round, defeating Simsbury, Connecticut (4-2) and the Vermont CSB Hawks (7-1) and losing to the Connecticut Capitols. 2-0. The Mariners next played in the semifinals, where they outlasted Simsbury, 3-2, in a double-overtime thriller. In the final, Casco Bay completed their run with a 4-1 victory over the Connecticut Capitols. The team included Brunswick’s Brian Connolly and Nick Marro, Cape Elizabeth’s Nick Laughlin, Durham’s Dylan Hannan, North Yarmouth’s Jack McIntyre, Portland’s Jasper Curtis and Ian McCollough, South Portland’s Seth Cloutier, Connor Corcoran, Bella Schifano, Ben Stanley and Jake Udomsay and Yarmouth’s Sam Bradford and Ben Moll. The team was coached by Jack Schifano, Mike Curtis and Mike Connolly (not pictured). Christine Laughlin (not pictured) served as the team’s administrator.
