PORTLAND — Children up to the age of 13 may soon pay half-price fares on Casco Bay Lines ferries, after the CBL Board of Directors approved increasing the age threshold from the current 9 years. The March 26 vote was 5-4.
The ferry service covering the Casco Bay islands is a quasi-government agency established by the state in 1982, so the fare adjustment still requires approval from the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
Children under 5 are not charged. Peaks Island CBL Board member Twain Braden, who proposed amending the fares, said in a March 27 email he hopes PUC approval will come by summer.
