PORTLAND — The Casco Bay Island Transit District Board of Directors has unanimously accepted a report from an arbitration panel regarding collective bargaining negotiations with ferry service employees.
United Marine Division Local 333, however, has not decided whether it agrees with the terms the panel laid out.
While a union representative in New York could not be reached this week for comment, Casco Bay Lines Manager Hank Berg said that as far as he knew, the union has not voted on the report.
Details of the report, including salary, insurance, pension and minimum pay provisions, will not become public until April 2.
The arbitration panel was brought in last April after negotiations between Casco Bay Lines and the union reached an impasse. The talks and then arbitration went on for more than two years.
Berg said the report will become public whether the union accepts it or not.
He also said that despite the difficult contract talks, ferry workers continued to provide excellent service to customers.
