BRUNSWICK — Carrie A. Johnson, 79, died Oct. 23 at her home.

She was born in the Philippines on August 10, 1932, the daughter of Rafael and Romualda Salazar Alcala.

In 1954 she graduated from Women’s College. Two years later on Dec. 8, 1956 she married Robert A. Johnson in the Philippines. Throughout their marriage they moved various places as his military career dictated.

She served as both father and mother while her husband was deployed, doing everything from housework to yard work and giving driving lessons. She and her husband were devoted members at St. John’s the Baptist Church.

Johnson was predeceased by her husband who died in May of 2010.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Green of Topsham and Patricia A. Wilson of England; two sons, Joseph A. Johnson of Bowdoinham and Andy Johnson of Topsham; four sisters, Herminia Alcala of Lisbon, Luz Reyes, Gloria Santillan and Lily Macaraig all of the Philippines; a brother, Angel Alcala of the Philippines; and seven grandchildren, Iain, Sam, Davina, Eric, Becca, Maggie and Andy.

Visiting hours were held at Stetson’s funeral Home, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, followed by internment in St. John’s Cemetary, Brunswick. Memorial Donations may be made to Coastal Human Society, 20 Range Rd., Brunswick, 04011. Memorial condolences may be expressed at www.stetsonsfuneralhome.com.
