SOUTH PORTLAND — April Caricchio defeated James Gilboy in the race for a seat on the City Council representing District 4.

Caricchio received 6,834 votes, while Gilboy trailed with 3,796, according to unofficial results. 2,673 ballots were write-ins or left blank.

District 4 encapsulates the southern-most corner of the city.

The seat is to be vacated by Mayor Linda Cohen, who, after six years, decided not to run for re-election.

Misha Pride ran unopposed to represent District 3 – a seat held by Councilor Eben Rose. Pride received 9,479 votes, according to unofficial results.

Incumbents Richard Matthews, Vice Chairman Matthew Perkins and Elyse Tipton were re-elected to the Board of Education, with 9,452, 9,236 and 9,263 votes, respectively.
