HARPSWELL — Carolyn Laura Browne Bolles, 84, of Great Island, died May 17 following a long illness.

Born in Cambridge, Mass. on July 26, 1924, she was the daughter of Arthur S. and Marjorie (Chalmers) Browne.

She graduated from Colby College in in 1948.

In 1959, she married Robert C. Bolles in Belmont, Mass. Together they raised their family in Wilton, Conn., before moving to Maine in 1977.

During World War II, she worked at Massachusetts General Hospital. After graduating from Colby, she worked for the Harvard Co-op. Later in life, she ran a bed and breakfast for several years.

Over the years, she was a member of the League of Women Voters, Harpswell Garden Club, Casco Bay Council Navy League, and was very active with the First Parish Church in Brunswick.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was known for bringing joy to the lives of all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her son David in 1995 and her husband Robert in 1997.

She is survived by two sons, Douglas Bolles of Lindale, Tex. and Steven Bolles of Londonderry, N.H.; a sister, Eleanor Stengel, of Concord, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., May 30 at the First Parish Church in Brunswick.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation or the Billy Graham Association.

Arrangements are by Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick.
