SOUTH PORTLAND — Carole Ann Eaton, 77, of South Portland, died Aug. 28 at Mercy Hospital with her family by her side.

Eaton was born Aug. 11, 1936, in North Monmouth, a daughter of Stanley and Regina Mary Arsenault Barbour. She attended school in North Monmouth and was a 1954 graduate of Monmouth Academy. Eaton also attended Mercy School of Nursing.

She married Maurice A. Eaton in 1957, at St. Francis Xavier Church, in Winthrop.

Eaton worked for several years with Canal Bank. She later served for more than 15 years as a nurse at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1988. During her retirement, she worked for the Visiting Nurses Association of South Portland.

She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church. Eaton also assisted her mother as a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer delivery service person.

Eaton enjoyed traveling and made several trips with her husband and friends to Ireland and Florida. She also enjoyed trips that involved her granddaughter’s dancing programs. Eaton studied genealogy and enjoyed working with her computer.

Her brother Gregory Barbour also died on Aug. 28 in Augusta. She is predeceased by a baby daughter, Kathleen M. Eaton.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice A. Eaton; a daughter, Maureen D. Pettengill; three sons, Michael D. Eaton, James M. Eaton and Kevin P. Eaton; a sister, Jacqueline; a brother, James Barbour; nine grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held Friday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, South Portland. Prayers were recited Saturday at the South Portland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Holy Cross Church, South Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
