CAPE ELIZABETH — Democrat Anne Carney announced her candidacy to represent District 30 in the state House of Representatives.

Carney hopes to succeed another Democrat, Rep. Kim Monaghan, who is term-limited. District 30 includes most of Cape Elizabeth.

A resident of Cape Elizabeth for 27 years, Carney served for 7 1/2 years as in-house volunteer attorney for Pine Tree Legal Assistance. She has been a member of the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust board of trustees for eight years and recently concluded a three-year tenure as CELT president.

A wife and mother of three children, she has also served on the board of Thomas Memorial Library, volunteered for Coastal Maine Aquatics and the Cape Elizabeth High School swim team, and spent three years coaching Cape Elizabeth Middle School girls’ lacrosse.

In a press release, Carney said her campaign will focus on health care, environmental protection and conservation, and education.
