BRUNSWICK — Carleton R. Wilson, 93, died Sept. 27 at Amenity Manor Nursing Home in Topsham.

Born in Brunswick on July 18, 1916, he was the son of Howard and Mabel (Rogers) Wilson.

He attended the Growstown School, a one room school house, and worked on the family farm until he developed polio.

On Nov. 9, 1938, he married Edna MacKenzie. She died On July 22, 1974.

In 1938, he bought the Duck Inn and operated it until he retired in 1993. In the early 50s, he began Wilson’s Lunch Truck and drove to workplaces to sell lunches from his truck.

The Duck Inn served as a town landmark where people would gather to talk about current events and purchase five-cent hot dogs.

He enjoyed working and especially selling his hot dogs. Since he was a child, he religiously attended the Topsham Fair. Other favorites of his included Dutch Belted cows, whoopie pies and bluegrass music.

He had a wealth of knowledge about Brunswick’s history and enjoyed sharing pictures and stories of early Brunswick with others.

He was predeceased by his wife Edna on July 22, 1974, a daughter, Mary Ann Tuck, in 1964, a brother, Maynard Wilson and two sisters, Alta Storer and Claire Curtis.

Surviving are his son, Robert Wilson and his wife Valerie of Florida and two daughters, Kathy Wilson and Elizabeth Wilson, both of Brunswick; eight grandchildren; several great- grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral service will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at Stetson’s Funeral Home.
