PORTLAND — A city man accused of robbing a Forest Avenue car wash on Aug. 20 remained in Cumberland County Jail on Tuesday.

Officials said George Riddle, 44, whose address was not listed on jail intake logs, was being held on $50,000 cash bail after his Sept. 1 arrest.

Police Lt. James Sweat said Riddle was arrested on Forest Avenue around 3:30 p.m.  and charged with Class A robbery and Class C theft by receiving stolen property for two separate incidents.

Sweatt said Riddle is accused of entering the convenience store at the car wash at 1185 Forest Ave. around 9:15 p.m. Aug. 20 and threatening a clerk with a knife before he escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Riddle is also alleged to have been part of a residential burglary, and Sweatt said police are also investigating other robberies and burglaries possibly linked to Riddle.
