CAPE ELIZABETH — At a site walk Wednesday morning, members of the Planning Board reviewed plans for the Thomas Memorial Library renovations.
The plans include demolition of one portion of the library plus an addition of almost 11,000 square feet that will result in a total square footage of nearly 16,300 square feet. A green space of 12,000 square feet would be paved over to create a larger parking lot.
Other plans include creating a water run-off system, a roundabout at the side entrance to the library, and the addition of trees and shrubbery for outdoor recreational spaces. Other trees would be removed to give pedestrians and drivers better sight lines to the library on Scott Dyer Road.
The front of the library would be redone to remove a set of stairs and include a large glass door. The stairs facing the sides of the building would become interior stairs and another glass door would be placed behind them, giving passersby an inside look of the library. The four columns outside of this entrance would remain in place.
The renovation plan will go to voters in November. If it passes, construction is expected to begin next January and be completed in the fall of 2015.
