CAPE ELIZABETH — Thomas Memorial Library is holding its first poetry contest, which is open to all Maine residents.

Entries for the Gabriel Zimpritch Memorial Poetry Contest are being accepted until May 14. Awards will be given to one teenager, age 11-18, and one adult.

Former Maine Poet Laureate Betsy Sholl will award the adult prize and Gibson Fay-Leblanc, poet laureate of Portland, will award the teen prize.

Participants can submit up to five poems, totaling no more than 15 pages, to tmlpoetry@gmail.com

The award is named for Cape Elizabeth student Gabriel Zimpritch, who died in May 1995 at a lacrosse team practice. He was also an avid poetry writer and reader.
