CAPE ELIZABETH — Race organizers have announced the dates for the first-come, first-serve online race registration for the 16th Annual TD Beach to Beacon Road Race on Aug. 3.
Registration for 1,900 Cape Elizabeth-resident lottery slots will begin at 7 a.m., Thursday, March 14. Registration for the 4,000 slots available to the general public begins at 7 a.m., Saturday, March 15.
Registration is generally full within minutes of the opening. Last year, Cape Elizabeth-resident registration finished in eight minutes, while general registration filled within five minutes.
The race is expected draw about 6,000 runners. Last year, the race drew a record number of finishers, 6,117, from 17 countries, 44 states and more than 240 Maine cities.
The Kids Fun Run online registration will be open from March 18 to June 30. Parents can also register their children at the Expo or on the day of the race.
To register, go to www.beach2beacon.org. Registration is $45.
Organizers also announced that the Portland-based nonprofit, Opportunity Alliance, will be this year’s race beneficiary.
The TD Charitable Foundation, an arm of TD Bank, will give $30,000 to the nonprofit, which provides mental health, substance abuse, homelessness prevention, early childhood education and heating assistance services to more than 20,000 people in Maine.
Every year the foundation selects a Maine-based nonprofit to be the beneficiary of the race and provides it with publicity and the opportunity for significant fundraising activities.
Last year’s beneficiary, the Center for Grieving Children, raised an additional $35,000 on top of the foundation’s gift. In total, the race helped raise $164,000 for the current and former race beneficiaries.
