CAPE ELIZABETH — The high school mock trial team won its fourth consecutive state championship on Dec. 4 against Hampden Academy. The team will represent Maine at the National High School Mock Trial Tournament in Madison, Wis., in May 2014.
In the state competition, Cape Elizabeth students competed against teams from 22 high schools and tried the case of the State of Maine vs. Terry Jackson, which involved a fatal car accident and texting while driving. Justice Donald Alexander, of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, served as the presiding judge.
The team, which includes 19 students, is coached by social studies teacher Mary Page and led by four captains: Kevin Hare, Dorothy Janick, Brian Taintor and Jack Tierney, all of the Class of 2014.
The team will soon embark on a campaign to raise money for the trip to the national tournament.
