CAPE ELIZABETH — Beth and Bob Feeman and their two children made up a story about a blueberry farmer in Northern Maine as they were driving in their car nearly six years ago.

Beth Feeman said they started to take notes, and a village and characters began to develop. Over time, the story has evolved into a three-book mystery series. The first, “Town in a Blueberry Jam,” will be released Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Feeman and her husband write together under the pseudonym B.B. Haywood. She said the series is classified as a “cozy mystery,” with quirky characters set in Cape Willington, a small fictional village.

She said the town is not based on Cape Elizabeth, but is a fictional town in rural Northern Maine created around three places they have lived over the years.

The book is published by Berkley Prime Crime, a division of Penguin, and already has a five-star review from Barnes & Noble, Feeman said.

“Everyone had a part in this book,” Feeman said. “Our daughter wrote a part of it, and our son had his part, too.”

Feeman will celebrate the publication of the first book at the Thomas Memorial Library on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. She will read from the book, and there will be blueberry tea and blueberry pastries served as refreshments. A book signing will follow the event.
