Daniel Oppenheim sounds a shofar, or ram’s horn, during dedication Sept. 13 of the new sanctuary at Congregation Bet Ha’am on Westbrook Street in South Portland. The new worship space and a renovated religious school are on the site of the former Sawyer School. The dedication came just in time for the Jewish High Holidays, which begin Sept. 18 with Rosh Hashanah.
