Masters swimmer David Vail of Brunswick recently travelled to Cleveland, Ohio for the National Senior Games, joining 11,000 other athletes, including 103 from Maine, and in his first competition since “aging up” to the 70-74 age group, won gold medals in the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes and the 500 freestyle. His 100 back time of 1 minute 14 seconds and his 200 back time of 2:44 broke National Senior Games records for the 70-74 age group. In addition to setting two new national records, David established New England Masters records in both backstroke events and both individual medleys and new Maine Masters records in all six events. He trains with coach Dave Bright and the Polar Bear Masters group at Bowdoin College’s Greason Pool.
