BRUNSWICK — Local rowers are preparing for Saturday’s Cow Island Classic race on Merrymeeting Bay.

The race is part of a series put on by the Maine Rowing Association and has three divisions for men and women: junior, master and open.

The regatta is hosted by the Merrymeeting Community Rowing Association, a nonprofit for Brunswick-area residents interested in getting into rowing or joining a team.

Jackie Ellis, from MCRA, said the event helps showcase the group for people who might be interested in joining, and gives participants a taste of competitive rowing.

Rowers from across the state are expected to attend, and people are encouraged to watch the race from the sidelines along the Androscoggin River Bicycle Path.

The race begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Water Street Boat Launch. Registration is from 9-9:30 a.m. For more information visit the Maine Rowing Association website at rowmaine.org.
