9/14 at 11:11 p.m. According to a police report, Officer Ed Yurek attempted to pull over the driver of a white 2002 Ford Taurus on Bath Road for suspected drunk driving. Police say the driver, Aaron J. Aldrich, 28, of 47.5 Cumberland St., failed to stop, and instead turned into Baybridge Estates. Once Aldrich turned onto Primrose Lane, he allegedly slowed down before jumping out of the moving car, which had two passengers. After a brief foot chase, police say Yurek was able to grab Aldrich and subdue him. However, once arrested, police say Aldrich began yelling profanities and spitting, leading Yurek to put a so-called “spit hood” over the suspect’s head. Aldrich then allegedly repeatedly slammed his head into the cruiser’s window before shattering it, causing an estimated $800 worth of damage. Aldrich was taken to Mid Coast Hospital for his injuries. He was eventually charged with operating under the influence, operating while license suspended or revoked, failure to stop for a law enforcement officer, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, aggravated criminal mischief, violation of conditional release and a warrant arrest charge for domestic violence assault.
