Arrests

2/10 at 1:07 a.m. Katie McAvoy, 28, of Harris Street, Brewer, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle without a license.

2/10 at 10:21 a.m. Jeffory L. Fletcher, 20, of Cumberland Street, was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass and violating condition of release.

2/12 at 11:44 p.m. Emmanuel Lodin Eddy Ogak, 24, of Front Street, Portland, was arrested on a charge of operating after habitual offender revocation and failure to provide correct name, address and date of birth.

Air head

2/10 at 8:07 a.m. A caller from Big Apple food store on Bath Road reported that someone had broken into the air compressor outside the store. Apparently the vandal had tried – unsuccessfully – to access the loose change inside the machine. The damage was estimated at $250.

Scam-in-law

2/10 at 3:21 p.m. An elderly woman called to report she had been the victim of a scam. She had received a phone call from a man claiming to be her son-in-law. The man said he was in jail in Canada and needed $5700 to make bail. He asked her to send the money to him via Western Union, but the name he provided was different than her son-in-law’s name, and the address of the money order was in Texas, not Canada. The woman sent the money anyway. She realized she had been scammed when she received a call from her actual son-in-law, who was in Harpswell. She has since filed a complaint with the Maine Attorney General.
