PORTLAND — Three members of a Brunswick family were indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury and charged with beating another man with a pipe on India Street, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

Walter Haycock, 62, and his sons Joshua Haycock, 31, and Justin Haycock, 29, all of Brunswick, were charged with elevated aggravated assault and other crimes in the May 5 incident, which left another man hospitalized for several days, according to Lt. Scott Pelletier of the Portland Police Department.

Pelletier said the beating was “some type of retaliation” in which the Haycock family traveled from Brunswick to Portland, allegedly with the intent of harming the victim. Pelletier said witnesses identified the Haycocks as assailants.

Each man was charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony that carries a sentence of up to 30 years.

Each also was charged with Class B felony burglary and Class C aggravated criminal trespass. Walter Haycock also was charged with Class C criminal threatening. Information on the lesser charges was not immediately available.
