A Brunswick man died in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday evening in Harpswell, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Eric Allred, 28, was traveling north on Harpswell Islands Road about 7 p.m. when he lost control of his 1998 Subaru Legacy, crossing over into the southbound lane and striking a 2014 GMC Acadia driven by a Vermont woman. Lauren Caswell, 39, of Northfield, Vermont, was attempting to turn right onto Garrison Cove Road when her sport utility vehicle was hit. Caswell, her husband and two children suffered minor injuries in the accident.

Allred was pronounced dead as Harpswell rescue workers were driving him to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but speed was, according to the sheriff’s office.
