BRUNSWICK — A 28-year-old man was arrested early Saturday, Jan. 11, after allegedly assaulting his live-in girlfriend and destroying her phone when she tried to call 911.
The man, Jose Rodriguez, previously fled their Cumberland Street apartment the day before around 6 p.m., when police responded to a call the 28-year-old woman made using a neighbor’s phone, according to Deputy Chief Marc Hagan.
The woman claimed that Rodriguez pushed her repeatedly, made verbal threats, blocked her first attempted 911 call by destroying her phone, and damaged some other property, including a TV, a beer bottle and some dishes.
Police returned to the scene around 3 a.m. Saturday after the woman locked herself in her bedroom and called police using another phone when Rodriguez returned, Hagan said.
That’s when Rodriguez was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault, criminal threatening, obstructing report of a crime and criminal mischief.
The woman had no visible injuries and required no medical assistance, Hagan said.
Rodriguez was being held at Cumberland County Jail in Portland on $440 bail. He is scheduled to appear March 4 at the West Bath Courthouse.
