BRUNSWICK — Parkview Adventist Medical Center has laid off 16 employees as a result of falling revenues and unpaid MaineCare debt.
Parkview spokeswoman Tory Ryden said the layoffs, which took effect Monday, affected part- and full-time positions in nearly every department. The hospital previously had 196 employees.
The layoffs will not impact the continuation of any services, Ryden said.
In an announcement Monday, Parkview President and Chief Executive Officer Randee Reynolds said fewer patients, increased spending on charitable care and reduced funding from federal and state government led to the layoffs.
Ryden said the state owes Parkview $3.1 million in MaineCare reimbursement payments. The state’s MaineCare debt currently totals $184 million, an issue the state Legislature and Gov. Paul LePage have yet to resolve.
In addition, Ryden said, Parkview received a 2 percent cut in Medicare payments in April as a result of federal sequestration.
