BRUNSWICK — The Alfred M. Senter Fund is soliciting requests for proposals to fund nonprofits and charities that contribute to the cultural, environmental, and general welfare of Brunswick, Harpswell, Durham, Lisbon, Topsham and Bath.

The organization will accept applications through Oct. 31; applications are available by contacting the Senter Place management office at 725-6610.

According to the fund’s website, a typical award does not exceed $20,000. In 2015, the fund gave more that $144,000 to 36 organizations, selected from a pool of 52 applicants. The fund does not grant money that benefits the operating budget or endowment of an organization.

Alfred Senter, who established the fund, was the former owner of Senter’s Department Store on Maine Street, a location now called Senter Place and home to 25 corporate, nonprofit, and retail businesses. According to information released by the organization, a portion of Senter Place’s net income contributes to the fund, which to date has given almost $2 million to local charities.
