The fall sports season is down to just one team in the only sport still going.
Brunswick’s football squad, after a solid 6-2 regular season, which resulted in the No. 1 seed in Eastern Class B and a quarterfinal round bye, took the gridiron for its first playoff test last weekend and survived No. 5 Skowhegan, 42-28.
The Dragons advanced to the Eastern B Final Friday where they will host high-flying No. 2 Cony, which downed No. 3 Messalonskee, 41-15, in its semifinal.
Back on Sept. 20, Brunswick hosted the Rams and prevailed 54-38.
The winner of the regional final will meet either Kennebunk (10-0) or Marshwood (8-2) in the Class B Final Friday, Nov. 23 in Orono.
The last remaining girls’ soccer team, Mt. Ararat, was ousted in the Eastern A Final.
The Eagles, after a 12-2 regular season, earned the second seed in the region and downed No. 7 Cony, 1-0, in overtime, in the quarterfinals and eliminated third-ranked Hampden Academy, 2-1, in the semis, but last Tuesday, at top-ranked, three-time defending regional champion Bangor, Mt. Ararat was ousted, 2-1, and finished the year 14-3.
Finally, Brunswick’s Tessa Cassidy competed at the New England cross country championships in Manchester, N.H., last Saturday. Cassidy had the 127th-best time (20 minutes, 8.50 seconds on the 5,000 meter course).
