PORTLAND — Former Mayor Michael Brennan, a Democrat, has returned to elected office by defeating Republican Samuel Ledue in the House District 36 by a 2,605 to 755 vote Tuesday.

Brennan will replace Rep. Denise Harlow, now unenrolled, formerly a Democrat. Harlow was prevented from seeking a new term because of term limits.

House District 36 extends from a small portion of Ocean Avenue between Walton and Read streets north and west to city boundaries with Westbrook and Falmouth.
