BRUNSWICK – Brenda Jane Elliott Gray, 62, of River Road, died Oct. 28, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born July 14, 1953, in Northampton, Massachusetts, a daughter of Lester W. and Dorothy L. (Potter) Elliott. She was  graduated from Northampton High School with the Class of 1971. She received an associate degree in Nursing from Greenfield Community College.

Gray was employed for many years as a registered nurse in Massachusetts and Maine. She had been a hospice nurse for several years and, most recently, was employed as an RN at Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick.

Gray was a wife, mother and caregiver, someone who loved life, her family and her friends very much. She was someone who believed the elderly are important and in the principles of hospice care. Above all, she believed in the love of God.

She is survived by her mother of Leeds, Massachusetts; her husband of 26 years, Robert H. Gray of Brunswick; three sons, Jeffery E. Shumate and Edward L. Shumate, both of Chicopee, Massachusetts, and Keith A. Shumate of Northridge, Massachusetts; two sisters, Paula L. Elliott and Terri L. Buckley of Leeds, Massachusetts; four grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. Should friends and family desire, memorial contributions may be made in Gray’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Topsham, ME 04086 or to the ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128-6804.
