TOPSHAM — An April 28 woods fire was caused by two 12-year-old Topsham boys playing with a lighter, officials said Tuesday.
Charges are pending against the boys, according to Police Chief Chris Lewis. They may have to undergo a junior fire setting program, Emergency Medical Services Director Mike Labbe said.
Firefighters were dispatched to Crooker’s Pit at 2:55 p.m., and had the fire under control about a half hour later. The scene was clear at 4:43 p.m., according to Topsham Fire and Rescue Capt. Greg Payson.
The fire consumed about an acre and a half. Firefighters from Brunswick and Lisbon were called in “because the wind conditions were pushing (the blaze) pretty hard,” Payson said last week.
The Maine Forest Service investigated.
