PORTLAND — The body of a missing fisherman was found under Custom House Wharf Tuesday morning, City Hall spokeswoman Nicole Clegg said.

A body tentatively identified as that of George Manning, 66, was found by Portland and South Portland police divers at about 8 a.m. Manning was a local fisherman who was reported missing Monday by his co-workers on the fishing boat Northstar.

The vessel had been docked at the end of the wharf, and Manning was living aboard, Clegg said.

The cause and manner of Manning’s death have yet to be determined. His body has been taken to the state Chief Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy and positive identification.

Police asked anyone who had seen Manning in the 48 hours prior to his death to call 874-8533.
