Knightville resident Dan Hogan led a group of volunteers who planted nine trees and built an irrigation ring at Pope Preserve in South Portland on Saturday, Oct. 8, in the last major work to be done this year on the community park next to the Mill Creek Hannaford store. The project will be put to bed for the season when wood chips are spread around the trees. Shrubs and ground cover will be added next year, Hogan said, and funds will be raised to add benches and signs depicting the ecology and history of the site on Mill Cove.
