FREEPORT — Betty Lou O’Hara, 80, died June 7 at her residence, following a long illness.

She was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Skowhegan to James and Cecelia Tilley. She attended schools in Hallowell and married Beverly Fred O’Hara on Jan. 28, 1956, in Hallowell.

After raising a family of five children into their teen years, she began working at L.L. Bean, retiring in 1996.

Her passions in life were her family and baking for them, which gave her much pleasure. She loved her beloved kitty, Misty, and also enjoyed watching birds and tending to her gardens, which always brought a smile to her face.

She was predeceased by her husband who died on their 58th wedding anniversary, Jan. 28, 2014; daughter, Susan Tilton; grandson, Peter Jordan; and a granddaughter, Ava O’Hara.

She is survived by four children, Lynne, and husband, Geoff Lachance, Sally, and husband, George Cossaboom, Michael O’Hara, and Scott, and wife, Stephannie O’Hara; two sisters, Barbara Beaudoin and Nancy McLaughlin; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to CHANS Home Health Care for the compassion, care, support and all the smiles that Jo Ellen and Jean Ruid put on their mother’s face. She loved both of you.
