PORTLAND — Betty Gene Rumery died Nov. 3 at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 27, 1931, she was a daughter of Kenneth and Olive Tolman. Educated in South Portland Schools, she was active in sports, co-captain of the girl’s basketball team and a member of the field hockey team.

For 28 years she worked for Maine Savings Bank. She was also a member of the board of the YMCA.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, bowling, and going to lunch and dinner with her friend. Spending time with her grandchildren, Joe and Matt Rumery and Casey, Griffin and Sullivan Harte, and great granddaughter Avery, gave her the most joy.

She was predeceased by her brother James Tomlan.

Surviving Rumery are her husband of 58 years, Bob; son Kenneth Rumery and his wife Cathy of Portland; daughter Bonny Harte and her husband Michael of Rochester, N.H.; brother John Tolman and his wife Jean of Rangely; and sister Diane and her husband Bernard of Pembroke.

In accordance with her wishes, there will not be any services. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 10310, Portland, ME 04104.
