TOPSHAM — Bertrand R. Labbe, 84, died Feb. 20 at the Freeport Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.

On July 9, 1926, he was born in Wallagrass, the son of John J. and Leda (Gagnon) Labbe.

During World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1946.

After his discharge, he returned to his job at Bath Irons Works, until he retired in 1991 after nearly 50 years of service.

On July 4, 1952, he married Marilyn A. Parlin and settled in Topsham Heights.

Along with the joy he received from spending time with family and friends, he also enjoyed motorcycles, metalworking and woodworking. He made numerous scale model airplanes that he proudly displayed at his home.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Delman and Ligourie, and two sisters, Marie and Monique.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Marilyn; four daughters, Anne Taylor and her husband Christopher of  Topsham, Janice Blick of Lisbon Falls, Denise Grover and her husband Sean of Columbia, S.C., Laurie Weber and her husband Bryan of Brunswick; granddaughter Rebecca Churney and her husband Brian of Brunswick; two great grandchildren, Phoebe and Parker of Brunswick; a sister, Lande Byers and her husband Stan of Fremont, Calif., and a brother, Louis Labbe and his wife Pam of Clio, Mich.

His family would like to thank Dr. Krueger, Dr. Wadland and the dedicated staff at Freeport Nursing Home for their excellent care.    

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick.

Graveside services at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
