PORTLAND — Bernard Parker “Buddy” Haskell Jr., 68, died March 23 at a Portland hospital.

Born in Portland, he was a son of Bernard and Ann Wilbur Haskell.

For 15 years he worked as a property manager in New Jersey and was an officer of the Sons of the American Legion in Hightstown, N.J., for many years.

He had a passion for harness racing, and after retiring he became a harness race horse owner and trainer.

His hobbies included shuffleboard, dancing and supporting his nephew’s band.

He lived for his family and friends, and loved spending time with them.

Surviving are his wife, Claire (Carrier) Haskell of Portland; his former wife, Marlene Hammonds of Portland; sons, James Haskell and wife Julie of Scarborough, and Robert Haskell of Portland, and daughters, Christine Esposito of Portland and Kathie Murphy and husband Patrick of Scarborough; a step-son, Jason Winslow of Portland, Ore.; brothers, Michael of Buxton, Frank of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Patrick and wife Jennifer of Hightstown, N.J., and his sister, Deborah Champagne-Dale and husband Danny of Hightstown, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was held Sunday, March 27.
