PORTLAND — Bernadette Ann Jackson, 79, died peacefully Feb. 14, at Sedgewood Commons.

She was born Feb. 26, 1934, in Portland. She attended local schools and was a 1953 graduate of Cathedral High School.

Jackson worked as a payroll clerk for New England Telephone Company from 1954 to 1994, retiring after 40 years. She was on the grievance committee.

She was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Elk’s Lodge No. 188. She enjoyed swimming at the Elks, dancing, bowling for the New England Telephone League for many years and attending church activities and family gatherings.

She is survived by her cousin, Anna Strout, and husband, Warren of Portland; her very close friend Sr. David Mary of the Sisters of Mercy; and many cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held from 8-9:30 a.m. Feb. 19, at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland, with prayers being recited at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by an 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church, 307 Congress St., Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
