FREEPORT — Friends and neighbors raised more than $3,500 at a Feb. 1 bean supper and silent auction to benefit the Scott and Argraves families, who lost their Ware Street homes last month in unrelated fires.
“We had a great turnout with the community coming together to volunteer their time and cooking talents,” Christina Rice, of Ware Road, said in an email. “We were fortunate enough to have all food donated as well as the silent auction items, which meant all money raised went to the families.”
The Freeport chapter of the Freemasons have applied for a $500 matching grant from the Grand Lodge of Maine that would raise an additional $1,000 for the families.
