FREEPORT — L.L. Bean has received approval from the Project Review Board to construct a new building at its Flying Point Paddling Center.

The plan calls for a two-story, 7,200-square-foot building at the retailer’s coastal property at 7 Marietta Lane, which currently serves as a training ground for kayakers, paddleboarders and more. The building is intended to serve the same number of people as the current building – about 3,000 annually.

Two existing buildings will be demolished. L.L. Bean spokesman Mac McKeever said the company will submit an updated landscaping plan next spring. The start and end dates of construction haven’t been determined.

The board granted approval Wednesday, Sept. 11, after a site walk.
