CAPE ELIZABETH — All 4,000 online registration spots for the 17th annual TD Beach to Beacon 10k road race were filled March 14 in a record-setting 4 minutes, 32 seconds, beating the record set last year by 26 seconds.

Runners have until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 23, to register for one of 1,900 spots available through a lottery, which will be drawn on March 25. To sign up for the lottery, visit beach2beacon.org. Lottery sign-up costs $5.

Cape Elizabeth residents had a 24-hour head start March 13 to fill 600 race spots in advance of the general online registration. Those spots were filled in under 7 minutes, another new record.

Another registration period will begin soon for race beneficiaries, sponsors, elite athletes, and runners who have participated in all 16 previous Beach to Beacon runs.

The race is set for Saturday, Aug. 2. As usual, it begins near the Crescent Beach State Park entrance on Route 77 and ends at Portland Head Light in Fort Williams Park.
