BATH — The Bath Area Family YMCA is encouraging Mid-Coast residents to participate in health and wellness activities during “America On the Move Week,” which will be held Sept. 20-27. More than 1,300 YMCAs will join with the America On the Move Foundation in an effort to improve the health of communities across the country.

The YMCA and the foundation are collaborating to encourage individuals to take small steps to achieve and maintain healthier lifestyles. During America On the Move Week, families and individuals can take part in various activities that promote moving more and making more intelligent food choices. Each day, participants can count their “steps” taken while engaging in any form of physical activity, including swimming, dancing and biking, as well as other group or family activities that promote well-being, such as eating together as a family.

The YMCA will be free during the week of Sept. 20-27 for anyone participating in “America on the Move Week.” People who go to the YMCA and register for the special event will not be charged a day fee and will have access to the facility, which includes the track, pool, fitness room and gym. Non-members may join anytime during that week, and their joiner fee will be waived.

A lunch-time bike ride of 10-15 miles will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23; meet at the YMCA at noon. A 6-mile “power walk” around Bath will begin that day at 5:30 p.m.
