BATH — Police said a woman whose body was found in the Kennebec River early Sunday morning apparently committed suicide.

Police are not certain where Debra McKellar, 60, of High Street entered the river, and investigators are working to ascertain a time and place she was last seen by friends, relatives or neighbors.

Police were informed about a body in the Kennebec, near the boat launch at the south end of Washington Street, at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers responded and retrieved McKellar’s body; evidence collected at her apartment indicated her death to be a suicide, according to police, who said there were no indications of foul play.

McKellar’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy was to be performed.
