BATH — A Bath woman has been charged with stealing prescription pads from her Lewiston workplace and using them to illegally obtain Suboxone over several months.
Kate Obrien, 37, allegedly forged prescriptions at a Walgreens store in Bath, prompting the pharmacist to notify police, according to Bath Police Detective Andrew Booth, who works with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
“The pharmacist grew suspicious and called me, and that resulted in Obrien coming forward and pretty much confessing,” Booth said Wednesday.
Obrien held a legitimate prescription for Suboxone, a narcotic used to treat addiction to opioids.
“It looks like she was just doubling it,” Booth said.
Obrien held an administrative position at the Lewiston workplace, which Booth declined to name. He also refused to comment on how Obrien obtained signed prescriptions.
The investigation is ongoing, he said.
Obrien was charged by the MDEA with acquiring drugs by deception, a Class C felony. She is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on Aug. 12.
