BATH — A five-mile trail that links the Bath Area Family YMCA to the Thorne Head Preserve will open officially at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, with a public celebration at the YMCA.
The Whiskeag Trail is a project of Bath Trails, which is a partnership of the City of Bath, the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust, local schools, nonprofits, private businesses, hikers and bicycle riders.
The Bath municipal band will perform, and a few short speeches will be followed by a ribbon cutting by the Purple House of Bath Middle School.
Guided hike and bike tours of the trail will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the Bath Trolley is available to bring hikers back to the YMCA from Thorne Head or other sections of the trail.
