BATH — Three hundred Bath Middle School students are going to the farm next week, courtesy of George Orwell.
The youths will attend a free live performance of Orwell’s famed book “Animal Farm” at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, as presented by the New Repertory Theater’s Classic Repertory Company.
The performance takes place from 8:45-10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2.
“Nothing rivals live entertainment,” an Oct. 15 Chocolate Church press release stated. “For many of the middle school students, this will be their first experience seeing a play. Actors will present pre-show questions and facilitate a post-show discussion around themes as the educational component.”
“‘This is an opportunity for students to learn how a written novel becomes a play based on the 1945 acclaimed novel by George Orwell that delves into the politics of power using animal allegory,” the notice added.
To put on the no-charge show, the Chocolate Church received financial support from the Maine Humanities Council and J.R. Maxwell’s through the Gift-a-Seat Program. Bath Middle School received funding support from the Maine Arts Commission.
