BATH — The Police Department and Community Policing last month received the National Neighborhood Watch Award of Excellence.

The National Sheriffs Association presented the award jointly with the Bureau of Justice Assistance at the NSA 69th annual conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Bath Police Chief Michael Field and Cpl. Nathan Gould attended the conference to accept the award.

The award is given to only one municipal department, one sheriff’s department and one community in the country.

Bath’s police officers, civilian staff and community volunteers are involved in programs such as community speed watch, house watch, harbor and island patrols, neighborhood watch and the Good Morning Program.

“I am very honored and humbled by such a prestigious award,” Field said. “This just reinforces and recognizes the hard work of our Community Policing group and the men and women of the Bath Police Department. I am very proud of all of them.”
